Moscow
A captivating full-day tour of this magnificent city starts with a visit to the Kremlin and its State Armoury; the oldest museum in Russia and home to a vast collection of precious stones and other priceless artefacts. You'll see Red Square, Lenin's Tomb and the vibrant St. Basil's cathedral, before heading to Moscow Kazansky Station for a glass of Russian champagne and canapés, and to board the Golden Eagle.

Kazan
Situated on the River Volga, the picturesque and historic city of Kazan - the capital of Tatarstan - has a rich tapestry of history and culture. One of the highlights of your tour today is the Kremlin Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Within the walls of this ancient citadel, you'll explore its stunning mosque and picture-perfect cathedral. Yekaterinburg
Founded in 1723 by Peter the Great, Yekaterinburg is the capital of the Urals. Today's city tour will take you to the poignant site where Tsar Nicholas II and his entire family were murdered by the Bolsheviks in 1918, and which is now a church dedicated to their memory. Choose between a walk through the city or a visit to Yekaterinburg Military Museum to exploring the intriguing Soviet military past.

Novosibirsk
A modern 'Soviet' city, you'll experience Novosibirsk's rich culture today, where the arts and science predominate. You can visit Lenin Square where the imposing Opera House is home to two permanent ballet and opera companies. Or, south of the city, you can visit the Railway Museum showcasing carriages of the Tsars, or if you have an interest in art, opt for the State Art Museum where you’ll find an extensive collection of icons, Siberian art and numerous paintings by celebrated Russian artist Nicholas Roerich.

Irkutsk
Your next stop is the 'Paris of Siberia', where you can take in the most significant sites and museums in this fascinating city. Later on, learn how to cook traditional Russian fare with a professional chef and prepare your own lunch, or visit a traditional Russian Dacha to get an insight into the everyday life of an average Russian family. You'll also visit the Volkonsky House Museum dedicated to the memory of the aristocrats who were exiled after the uprising of 1825, and recreate the atmosphere with a champagne reception and private concert.

Lake Baikal
Few natural sights can surpass the beauty and grandeur of Lake Baikal, the deepest lake in the world holding a mind-boggling fifth of the world's fresh water. For five blissful hours, the train will wind its way along cliff hugging tracks with vistas of snow-capped peaks along the far shore forming a picture-perfect backdrop, before stopping for an invigorating dip in the lake’s crystal clear ice-cold waters. As the train reaches the end of the track, jump off to board a boat to Listvyanka where you’ll visit the Lake Baikal Museum and Aquarium to learn about the flora and fauna. A delicious barbecue involving freshly smoked omul fish will be cooked on the shores of Lake Baikal.

Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia
Once the very center of an enormous empire led by Genghis Khan, Mongolia is famous for its endless green steppes, grazing livestock and white, nomadic gers (yurts) dotted across the countryside. You'll visit Gandan Monastery, one of Mongolia's most important Buddhist Monasteries and a monument to Genghis Khan before driving to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park where to see a traditional ger, meet a nomadic family or try your hand at horse riding. Later on there will be an enthralling performance of traditional Mongolian throat singing and contortionists.

On Board
Travelling through the beautiful landscape of the Russian Far East at a leisurely pace, you may wish to join one of the interesting lectures or Russian language lessons on board. The Golden Eagle runs alongside the Shilka and Amur rivers, close to the Chinese border towards remote Vladivostok where you’ll experience Russia at its most dramatic. Passing directly north of Seoul, Darwin and Osaka, the train reaches the most easterly point of this mammoth journey, travelling through Khabarovsk and crossing the River Amur. In the evening there is a farewell dinner for all.

Vladivostok, Russia
Having passed through eight time zones and covered a staggering 6,600 miles, the Golden Eagle draws into Vladivostok. A military port located on the western shores of the Sea of Japan, Vladivostok is home to the Russian Navy's Pacific Fleet and you’ll have the opportunity to explore its principal military attractions that have been closed to tourists for many years, including a visit to a preserved World War II submarine.
