There is nowhere on earth like the Eternal City. Rome wears its history on its sleeve – there are ancient ruins absolutely everywhere. But it’s also a thriving, delicious melee of mod-ern Italian culture. Your central hotel will place you at the heart of the action.
    Rose Garden Palace
  • Day2 - 3
Let an expert lead you around the labyrinth of central Rome – our guide can tell you the stories behind the A-list piazzas and monuments but also point out lesser-known corners. Haggle for fresh fruit and spices at the Campo de’ Fiori marketplace (the city’s oldest); people-watch in the Piazza Navona, home to Bernini’s Quattro Fiumi fountain; toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain (to ensure you’ll return to Rome one day); and climb the Spanish Steps for magnificent views over the hills and rooftops. Cool off inside the Pantheon – built in AD 126, it’s the best-preserved building of Ancient Rome. Meals: Breakfast
    Rose Garden Palace
  • Day3 - 4
Vatican City Take a trip to the city-state within a city. We’ll help you beat the queues, so you can breeze into the Vatican Museums, home to an extraordinary collection of art, maps, sculptures and antiquities. The highlight is, of course, Michelangelo’s frescoed Sistine Chapel – a site that lives up to the hype. Finish in the gargantuan St Peter’s Basilica, climbing the steps to the top for matchless city views. Meals: Breakfast
    Rose Garden Palace
  • Day4 - 5
Rome / Florence Take a first-class train ride through the Italian countryside to travel from the country’s political capital to its artistic one. Straddling the River Arno, dome-dotted Florence is pretty as a picture, and home to some of the country’s – if not the continent’s – most important art. Meals: Breakfast
    Hotel Brunelleschi
  • Day5 - 6
The best way to explore Florence is on foot, with a local guide. Stroll the splendid Renaissance streets, stopping off at the world-famous Uffizi Gallery – where you can admire Caravaggio’s Medusa, Botticelli’s Birth of Venus and many more masterpieces. Pause, too, at the Church of Santa Cro-ce, where Michelangelo, Galileo and many famous Floren-tines are buried. Meals: Breakfast
    Hotel Brunelleschi
  • Day6 - 7
San Gimignano / Siena Leave the city to plunge into the rolling, romantic Tuscan countryside. Wander the medieval walled town of San Gimi-gnano, with its 14 soaring towers (there were once 72). And join a guide for a stroll around Siena, taking in the Piazza del Campo – one of the finest main squares in Italy – the 14th-century Town Hall and the Duomo’s unforgettable frescoes. Meals: Breakfast
    Hotel Brunelleschi
  • Day7 - 8
Florence / Venice Another first-class train, another first-class city: today, head north to Venice, a place unlike any other. Here, you’ll transfer to your hotel not by car but by private motor-launch. The perfect welcome to the waterbound city. Meals: Breakfast
    Hotel Palace Bonvecchiati
  • Day8 - 9
It’s extremely easy to get lost in Venice. The best plan is to walk with a local guide, who can navigate you along the ca-nals and down the narrow alleys to reach the fairytale-pink Doge’s Palace, resplendent with frescoes and gilded stuc-cowork, and the Byzantine beauty of St Mark’s Basilica. Spend the day trying to fathom how this singular city man-ages to stay afloat. Meals: Breakfast
    Hotel Palace Bonvecchiati
  • Day9 - 10
Venice Lagoon Islands Venice spreads over more than 100 islands, floating in a wide lagoon. With your local guide, board a boat to hop amid these scattered isles, watching the church domes and bright boats glide by. Stop at Burano, a colourful fishing island renowned for its lace production and charming archi-tecture. Then cruise on to Murano, where exquisite glassware has been made using the same methods for over 700 years. Meals: Breakfast
    Hotel Palace Bonvecchiati
  • Day10 - 11
Venice Travel to the airport for your flight home. Meals: Breakfast
