    Upon your arrival you will be met by a local representative who will help you locate your vehicle. Relax during your short, 30 minute private Airport transfer in San Jose. A welcome package with your vouchers, a country map, and any other touristic information that we deem you may find useful will be waiting for you upon your arrival at your first hotel on your trip. Situated on a shady street just off Paseo Colon, San Jose’s main thoroughfare, Hotel Grano de Oro is a true oasis in the heart of the city. Converted from a Tropical Victorian mansion, the 40-room hotel maintains the warmth and comfort of a private home with all the amenities of a fine hotel.     This morning you’ll be picked up at your hotel by a shared coach for a transfer to Tortuguero. You’ll travel through the scenic Braulio Carillo National Park before stopping en route for a hearty Costa Rican breakfast. Afterward, you’ll continue onwards to a boat dock where you will board a boat for a 1 hour ride to Tortuguero through the famous Tortuguero Canals. In the early afternoon, you’ll arrive at Mawamba where you’ll be able to check into your room and enjoy a buffet lunch. This service confirms that upon your arrival to the Tortuguero National Park, the set park entry fee cost has been prepaid for your convenience. Below is a sample itinerary of how your time will be spent while you are enjoying Tortuguero. Activities are subject to weather conditions. After lunch, you will have an opportunity to visit the Village of Tortuguero along with your group guide. Through this visit you will learn the ways of life of the local residents of Tortuguero, a small Coastal town of about 1300 people. Mawamba Lodge is situated on the Northeast area of Costa Rica’s Caribbean Coast on a sand bar between the Tortuguero Canals and the Caribbean Sea, an excellent location that provides direct access to the beach and the canals. Nestled in the lush rainforest, this is the ideal hideaway for nature lovers and the perfect place to discover the wonders of the Tortuguero National Park. The Lodge is a 15-acre beach front property located on the right side of Tortuguero, offering nice views to the Tortuguero Lagoon and the canals.   • Day3 - 4
    After breakfast, your shared naturalist guide will take you on a visit to the “Mawamba Park” in the facility that includes the butterfly farms, frog farm and garden, bio-digester and gardens. This visit is combined with a walk in the trails at the Lodge. Return to the poolside restaurant for lunch at the lodge. This afternoon you will enjoy a guided boat tour of the Tortuguero Canals. Tortuguero is only accessible by water and your boat ride takes you to the heart of the National Park through the canals. The National Park is home to over 300 types of bird, 57 amphibian species and over 100 reptiles. Watch out for crocodiles, caiman, river otters and manatees in the water. Two-and three-fingered sloths, howler, spider and white-faced capuchin monkeys, bats and migratory birds take cover in the trees. Iguanas, basilisk lizards, herons, cranes and kingfishers sun themselves on the shore while coatis, anteaters, jaguar, tapir and ocelots are more difficult to spot in the jungle. Optional (Jul-Sep only): Green sea turtles and hawksbill turtles lay their eggs in Tortuguero between July and September, and guests staying at Mawamba during this time are able to join an exciting night tour to go spot nesting turtles on the beach.

    Shared transfer (boat) to Guapiles. This morning you’ll have a return boat ride to La Pavona in Guapiles, arriving around 11AM. A private transfer from Guápiles to Arenal is provided for today. The estimated travel time is 3 hours. Enjoy time at leisure to explore at your own pace, or relax at your hotel.     Nature lovers can enjoy a 2 hour safari style float trip down the lower Penas Blancas River. The pace allows you to enjoy the tranquility of the rainforest soaking in all the sighs and sounds of this tropical setting. Expert bilingual guides will give descriptions of the plant and animal species en route while keeping an en open for monkeys, toucans, jesus christ lizards, caimans, iguanas and a wide assortment of bird species. A local family welcomes you with a tropical drink (pineapple, orange, coconut water) and they will prepare a delicious typical lunch on the rustic wood-fired stove. While lunch is cooking, try your hand at making tortillas using the ground corn masa. They will demonstrate how to flatten the dough into perfect circles ready for cooking. The tortillas are served with lunch to top off the afternoon. You will have the opportunity to practice Spanish and learn about the Costa Rican culture.     Prepare for an exciting outing as you explore the jungles of Arenal on a private guided tour atop the famed Hanging Bridges. This weaving system of hanging bridges allows visitors to explore the upper and lower canopies of this amazing area. This bridge system is supported by concrete bricks providing stability when used. This system stretches across an area of 3100 metres through some of the dense jungle area which surround the Arenal mountainous sub-forest. A variety of wildlife can be seen whilst walking about on this dynamic bridge system including howler monkeys, and a plethora of exotic birds.     You will be warmly greeted by the driver of your private vehicle for the transfer to Lake Arenal. Observe the incredible scenic views of the Arenal Volcano as you ride a motor boat for 45 minutes across the lake. You will then ride comfortably in a private vehicle for your transfer to your hotel in Monteverde. The entire transfer time between Arenal and Monteverde is approximately 4 hours. You will be warmly greeted by the driver of your shared vehicle and transferred to the starting point of your amazing adventure.     A privately driven vehicle will pick you up from your hotel for a transfer to the Monteverde Cloud Forest. Arguably the main attraction in Costa Rica, the massive 10,500 hectares draws 70,000 tourists a year. It is known as the site with the largest number of orchids in the world with 34 of its 500 species newly discovered. Over 60 species of amphibians, including the golden toad, have been found in Monteverde. This area is also a stop for 91 species of migratory birds. The famed quetzel resides here seasonally.     You will be warmly greeted by the driver of your private vehicle for your transfer to Manuel Antonio National Park for a private guided tour. Get ready to relax on beaches with troops of monkeys that frequent the area. The park consists of mangrove swamps, rainforests and marshy woodlands and is bordered by the clear waters of the Pacific Ocean. It is a haven for over 100 mammal species including the highly endangered squirrel monkey, or "mono titi". For your convenience, morning or afternoon departures are available. The tour will span approximately 3 fun-filled hours and a return transfer to the hotel is provided at the conclusion of the tour.
