DAY 2 Moscow City tourLearn why the city of Moscow is one of the greatest capitals in the world - a place where old-world orthodoxy meets audacious free enterprise. Explore the Kremlin and witness its huge collection of imperial treasures, including exquisite Faberge eggs and ceremonial regalia. Walk among the cathedrals and museums within the Kremlin walls and get a glimpse of Lenin in his eternal resting state. While here, be sure to visit Moscow's metro stations - these lavishly decorated 'Palaces of the People' are unlike any other in the world.

DAY 3 SuzdalWe travel east today to Suzdal, one of the ancient towns and former capitals of Russia. The town is full of picturesque medieval buildings - mostly churches and convents - wonderful examples of old Russian architecture. This evening there is a cooking session and dinner with some of the locals.

DAY 4 Suzdal to MoscowThis morning we start with a guided walking tour of Suzdal exploring some of the gems of this beautiful town. We then return to Moscow by road, where we board our overnight train to Novogorod.

DAY 5 NovgorodNovgorod is Russia’s oldest city and home to some well preserved historical monuments; it is also an important former capital. Explore with a guided walk, and later in your free time if you wish; take in the Kremlin and its gardens, museums and cathedrals, the Millennium Monument, or take a boat trip on the river. Later we will go to the local public banya (bath house).

DAY 6-7 St PetersburgThis morning we head north again to St Petersburg, for our two night stay, where European baroque architecture meets the opulent style of the old Russian aristocracy. A home visit gives an insight into the lives of the locals, and we enjoy a Russian tea-party together. We will embark on a cruise of the waterways and canals of the city, for a new perspective of the city’s sights and bridges in particular. There is free time for you to visit the sights of your choosing, including of course the arguably ‘must see’ Hermitage Museum.
