Mention Botswana and two things readily spring to mind: outstanding safari and ultimate luxury. These are both delivered with resounding success, but also seemingly with ease, making it the perfect destination for a totally carefree safari. The majority of accommodation on offer in Botswana is tent-based due to strict eco-friendly regulations: if the camps are ever required to move then they leave nothing behind. When we say tents though, we mean rather more of a canvas castle – nothing quite prepares you for stepping into your first safari tent.

A Botswanan safari is diverse in so many ways. The arid, dusty Kalahari plains cover vast swathes of the country, giving way to savannah grasslands, lush green forests and streams in the north while the wending sapphire waters of the Okavango Delta, the world's largest inland delta, are home to a wide array of animals that have all adapted to live in this remarkable landscape. The stark, lunar landscape of the Makgadikgadi Pans is one of the most unique safari experiences on the continent;walk with San bushmen, quad bike over the eerie salt pan, frolic with semi-habituated meerkat, or search for the elusive brown hyena. The Moremi Game Reserve is considered to be one of the best game reserves in the whole of Africa, and once you witness the sheer numbers of wildlife (particularly big cats) here we think you will whole-heartedly agree. Cap this off with a simply spectacular sunset boat cruise on the Chobe River, cruising alongside elephants and hippos and you will leave (if you can) with an overwhelming array of surreal memories.

Botswana with A&K

Now this is an emergency. An A&K emergency. As our guests watched a family of bathing elephants in Botswana’s tannin-hued Okavango Delta they noticed the calm confident guide making a slightly agitated, surreptitious radio call. Were they in danger?

‘No,’ the guide assured them. ‘Everything’s under control.’ He wasn’t bluffing. A few minutes later, a motor launch rounded the river bend and sped towards them, before its driver, with James Bond panache, lobbed a couple of limes to the guide. Crisis averted. Sunset G&T could now be served with ice and a slice.

Moremi Game Reserve Fly across the Okavango Delta to Sanctuary Chief 's Camp, set deep in the Mombo Concession of the Moremi Game Reserve. This is one of the best camps in Botswana, with 12 secluded bush pavilions set along natural pathways that are abundant in local wildlife. Widely acknowledged as the 'predator capital of the world,' Moremi offers some of the most exciting game viewing in Africa and is one of the best places in Botswana to see the country's 'Big Five' - lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and Cape buffalo. This is primarily because the lush delta draws a fantastic concentration of wildlife. Predators include cheetahs, spotted hyenas and a large resident pride of lions. White and black rhinos are also found here, the latter of which is among Africa's fastest-disappearing species. During the afternoon, take full advantage of the game viewing activities led by our experienced driver/guides or enjoy the views from your own private deck. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Sanctuary Chief's Camp / andBeyond Sandibe Okavango Delta Lodge
  • Day5 - 6
Moremi Game Reserve Depart for an early-morning game drive. As well as the big cats and predators, the Okavango Delta draws large concentrations of elephant, buffalo, red lechwe, giraffe and impala. In the wet season, explore the marshlands in a moroko where you are likely to see crocodile, hippo, birds and tiny red reed frogs. Or take a late afternoon game drive, listening out for roaring lions on the hunt and encountering nocturnal animals as the dusk settles. After a full day of game viewing, return to camp for sundowners by the fire, dinner and time to relax. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

  • Day6 - 7
Chobe National Park Today it's time to fly northeast to Chobe National Park over forests, floodplains and marshlands to Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero, a beautiful lodge overlooking the Chobe River with expansive views across the islands and as far as Namibia. There is a staggering concentration of game in the area including a population of around 120,000 elephants so there will be plenty of sightings available over the next couple of days. The lodge has a split-level swimming pool and a serene spa with a range of tempting treatments. On the second day we recommend setting out just before sunrise to observe the wildlife at the start of the day. Enjoy dinner as you prepare and eat traditional dishes alongside the resident chef. In the early evening, the group will take a photographic safari cruise on the Chobe River. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero / Ngoma Safari Lodge

    Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma
  • Day8 - 9
Livingstone, Zambia Begin the day with a guided walking tour of Victoria Falls from the Zambian side which offers a different angle from that of the Zimbabwean side. Depending on the season the Falls are 80% more visible on this side so with us you won't miss either perspective. Mighty Zambezi River cascades over the edge of a 1.2-mile wide basalt lip. There will be the opportunity to explore a craft market nearby, before visiting Nakatindi Village where the community's school and clinic are supported by A&K Philanthropy.
